Fixing Holes in the Wall

But first, let's get the tool kit ready. For getting this project done you will need to have a utility knife, a sanding paper or block, a mesh wall patch, a joint compound and a joint compound holder, a putty knife, and a clean sponge (or a clean cloth piece).

1) The very first step is to get everything ready. That means placing the drop cloth on the surface that otherwise would catch dust or other debris.

2) The second step in fixing wall holes is to use a utility knife to remove any hanging pieces of broken drywall or anything that is coming out of the wall. Do this only as necessary. Remember that the idea is to clear the whole, but not to make it bigger. Also, you may want to lightly sand the edges of the whole.

3) Now that everything is ready for the patch, it's time to take the backing paper from the patch itself and to apply the patch over the whole. Center it well. Now you can load the tray with joint compound and using a putty knife, apply some of the compound to cover the mesh area. Make sure the compound goes beyond the borders too. Also, smooth the surface. 

4) As with any other wall repair, let the surface dry before doing some sanding work. After this you will be repeating the steps above to apply a second coat of compound and another round of sanding work. Thus, the first sanding work could be done with a rougher sandpaper. Then, you can use a finer sandpaper.
