Transform Your Home with a Simple Paint Job

Looking at the same walls everyday can be a bit boring, which is why a lot of people take to painting interior walls to spruce up the home. Although this task might seem easy, there are a few things you should consider before you actually give painting yourself a try.

If you're looking into painting a room consider how detailed you want to be. If you want to do stripes or other lining then you will want to tape off the room with painter's tape or masking tape. This will allow you to create straight lines while finishing the job a bit faster. You will also want to tape off your washboards, doors and windows so you don't get paint on the hinges or metallic surfaces. Make sure to remove all light switch covers and electric outlets and place some tape over the open area. If you can place an old blanket or plastic covering on the ground to protect your flooring.

Giving the room a new coat of paint is also a great way to patch up any holes you might find in the room. If you have any scrapes, inconsistencies, or nail holes that you want gone then make sure to putty your walls before you break out the paint. Putty usually takes a little while to dry so it's usually a better idea to do this the day before you paint.

When you are actually ready to paint make sure you understand what kind of paint you actually purchased. Some paints require you to mix in a primer while others come ready to go. Grab a paint bucket or painting tray and add a little bit of paint to begin with. It is usually faster to work with a paint roller, but a paintbrush works all the same. Make sure you cover the entire room and then give yourself a break to let the paint dry. If your paint looks dull then you might want to add a second coat.

Once the room is painted then you can paint the washboards, add details or simply marvel at the new look of your room. The best thing about painting the room yourself is you can proudly look at your work and marvel at the fact that you created a tiny masterpiece of your own.
