1) The first step is to remove trim. The tool you will need to remove the trim is a pry bar. However, using a pry bar can damage the wallboard or plaster. Thus it is a good idea to use a piece of wood to use between the pry bar and the wall. This will help you protect the wall. To remove the base shoe, use a flat pry bar and leverage.

2) Now to install baseboards, the first step is to start at the inside corner. Prepare a piece of baseboard and place it into the corner. You can drill pilot holes to fasten the baseboard with nails.

Now, you can use a scrap of baseboard and position it on the back of the work piece. You can then trace the outline of the scrap onto the work piece. Then cut along the outline using a saw, keeping the saw perpendicular to the baseboard face.

3) Now you can go ahead and install the base shoe molding, fastening the base shoe with finish nails.
