How To Clean House Windows

There are many different ways to clean house windows. Keeping your home windows clean will help improve the appearance of your home, and encourage more sunlight to shine through.

The most popular window cleaners include vinegar, newspaper, ammonia, paper towels and even a squeegee. More common brand cleaners include Windex. Do you really need to use all of these to clean your home windows?

The Simplest Home Window Solution

Perhaps the simplest way to keep windows clean and streak free is by using a mixture of ammonia and water. Get a spray bottle and a bucket. Mix 2 to three cups of ammonia with 1 gallon of water. This will smell quite strong. This mixture is also good for disinfecting your home, bathroom or floors.

You can fill up the spray bottle for the inside of your windows, and wipe down with newspaper. For the outside of windows, a spray followed by cleanup with a squeegee will give windows a clean, fresh and streak free appearance.

Paint, Buildup and Window Dirt

If your windows have particles, dust, paint and other hard to remove substances on the exterior, you may need to do a little more work to clean them. First, take a flat razor with you to inspect all of your windows. If you find buildup or paint, gently press lightly with the razor to remove these substances from the exterior of your windows.

Remember to press gently, focusing on removing the object rather than pushing against the window. If you press too hard, you may end up scratching your window. Once you have removed the paint or other buildup, you can repeat the process above, by spraying windows with ammonia.

For best results, repeat weekly or once every two weeks to keep windows fresh and clean.
